Youtube

I've been getting a lot of YouTube layout related commissions as of late, so I decided to hold off from updating the blog with individual post and just upload them all in big bulk. Four of the layouts were commissioned by the popular YouTube entertainer Outback Zack. The last one was a quickie for a group of friends who run a small video game focused channel.

N00b vs Pro was the first of the set, and the one I had the most control over. I was in charge of creating the branding of the channel. Everything was created from scratch, with the character based off sketches by Red Minus. Because this is a new channel there no previous established look or style.

There's no release date for when N00b vs Pro, but you can see the layout in half its glory on the YouTube channel. As mention, has no YouTube videos but has put up, but there is currently 800+ people subscribed to the channel!

AniMEME would be the second layout, and the simplest one, basically place a lot of well known memes around a layout. I did recreate and animate 5 memes for the show such as Success Kid, Condescending Wonka, The Most Interesting Man in the World, Good guy Greg, Scumbag Steve, and Bad Luck Brian. The rest were recreated by the various animator on the show.

Again, no release date but it does have an insane about of subscribers; 5,000+.

After the first two, Zack had me do his personal channel. I did this and next one within 24 hours. This one was a lot easier than the previous set because the theme and brand was already set before it was handed to me. They just wanted a new more professional layout. I made a clean layout with the assets I was given, the logo, the illustration of Zack's face, and the gears coming out of his head. The rest of what you see is my work.

Yo Mama is the fourth and last YouTube layout I did for Zack. Based off his popular animated series Yo Mama, I took premade characters from the show and arranged them as you see above. He asked for the layout to have Brodie (the host of the show) be on one side, and 7 of the regular Mama's be on the other. He wanted the mothers to be clickable, and feature a link to the official Facebook

I opted to make the logo part of a phrase, "Yo Mama is so..." and then each of the Mama's being a choice of a joke; So when you click a mother you're ending a sentence... "Yo Mama is so... HAIRY!" Which when you click on that mother it will take you to a playlist of hairy mother jokes.  Also to save space I edited Brodie's shirt to have a "Like Us on Facebook" design on the chest. I thought it was clever way of having the Facebook link on the page creatively and space saving.

As you can see above there was various changes made before it went live.

And finally;

Adamant Ditto, a channel created by a group of friends who I know, who record themselves playing video games and do various shows on their channel. I make an occasional appearance here and there. One of the group Rick Bieniek drew the pictures you see above. I decided to make them a layout out of those illustrations. I think it looks snazzy.

Ladies Room (2012)

Purple Cobras present a tale of a man who's trip to a bathroom becomes an ordeal of mistaken identity.
Each year MG Collective is the host of a 49 Hour Animation Film Competition, where a team of no more than 5 animators join together to create a story based off a theme within an weekend. The theme is given at 6pm Friday and the finish animation is due at 7pm Sunday.
The Purple Cobras took second place with Ladies Room. The team consist of Zeb Wood, Vance Vaden, Chase Shield, Ryan Wing, and myself. The story based off this years theme "panic" was the brainchild of Ryan and Vance.
Regardless of where we placed I can easily say that our team was happy with our product. I'm sure there was a bunch of things we would like to change here and there, but overall we finished the weekend with smiles... and needing a bath.
I had a scattered role in the team. Early on I helped out with character designs and storyboards.  After the animaitc was made I joined the animators Vance and Chase by animating the "lovely ladies". I'll admit it was very intimidating to be animating with a people who was either teaching animating or knee deep in Animation Mentors.
I mostly animated the drag queens. Yea that jittery walk cycle was me. I used how to walk in high heel videos on youtube as reference. Now I know!
After animating, I swapped roles and started texturing with Zeb and Ryan. I spent a lot of time with the drag queens because I helped out by doing their hair and make up. I also texture their outfits.
Finally I did some post production work by editing the sound and doing the end credits. Remember this?

I can easily say that this is a team that I would love to work with on ANY project. There's such a strong dynamic of personality, hard work, and talent that I can't seen easily matched. We were able to accomplish so much in those 49 Hours, its almost surreal. I'm proud of this team, and I'm proud of our work. I'm glad it was well received that we got 2nd place. But watch out next year... 1st is ours.
